Code School Finland was in charge of the assessment for the biggest coding competition in Shanghai, the Shanghai Youth Coding Competition.
On stage 1 of the competition, students from grades 1-9 participated in Scratch competition. Scratch is a graphical programming environment which is especially suitable for younger students. Middle and high school students had also an option to participate in a Python competition, where they used the textual programming language Python to create their programs. Judges reviewed all the projects and best programmers moved on to stage 2, where they took an age-group-specific exam for Scratch or Python coding.
Code School Finland created the assessment framework, including the Scratch and Python exams that tested participants’ conceptual knowledge and problem solving skills. Assessment is a key component of learning since it helps learning when it is done right. When students are able to see how they are doing, they are able to determine whether they truly understand the material. Code School Finland assessment framework also motivates students to learn more.
