The finest Finnish innovations in education

November 22, 2022, Code School Finland

We are very proud to have our Teachease service among the HundrED’s Global Collection 2023. This collection consists of 100 innovative, impactful, and scalable approaches in education from all over the world.

We want to bring recognition to two other Finnish innovations selected to the Global Collection; Qridi and KiVa program. Like Teachease, these innovations also focus on making teacher’s jobs easier. In this respect they represent the collection well since “Teachers for transformation” was the cross-cutting theme this year, and the most used keyword was “teacher professional development”.

What is also common between all of the Finnish innovations is that they put the student at the centre of the learning experience. Qridi does this by offering teachers software for assessment and planning. With Qridi’s tools learning is monitored under the teacher’s guidance, future skills are strengthened and personal strengths are identified. Each student’s learning journey is recorded and made visible with the help of different functionalities.

In Code School Finland we also value transparent assessment. All our teacher manuals include detailed materials for both formative and summative assessment.

KiVa program on the other hand offers evidence-based solutions to another important issue in school – namely bullying. It promotes empathy, raises awareness of the role the peer group plays in the bullying process and provides safe strategies to support and help the victims. It does this by offering teacher’s manuals, games, posters and forms for schools. From their website you can also find a parent’s guide that is worth taking a look at.

Teachease promotes important collaboration and communication skills by providing resources for doing projects. We find project-based learning to be the most effective way to teach digital skills.

Read more about how Teachease effectively tackles problems schools have with teaching digital skills from our recent article.
