Teachease enables schools to teach digital skills

Key topics: coding for children, coding in schools, school programmes, teacher education

The pedagogical team of Code School Finland has developed course materials for teacher training that enables schools to teach coding, robotics, and AI to children.

Since 2020, Finland’s Ministry of Education has been running the New Literacy Skills development programme which aims to further strengthen media literacy, ICT skills, and programming skills in children’s basic education. “It is essential for the competence and future of Finns that our schools are top performing also in digital skills”, said Jussi Saramo, Minister of Education (Feb 2, 2021).

The commissioning of this programme validated the work that we had been doing since 2014. It also shows that Code School Finland’s vision for programming in schools is now a commonly accepted direction of travel in education.

The result of this expert work, coupled with our previous projects and feedback we have been receiving from teachers since 2014, has been translated into Teachease – an internationally available collection of teaching modules. Numerous schools around the world have already adopted it.

Teachease is a customisable set of programming, robotics, and AI modules for schools. It includes both teacher training and teaching materials. Schools receive ongoing support when the new updated curriculum starts. The service comprises 12 modules, and their exact combination is determined individually for each school according to its current situation and vision for the future. In addition to programming, robotics, and AI, the modules cover computational thinking and general ICT knowledge.

A Gap Analysis is a short questionnaire that is sent to Code School Finland for review. Once we have reviewed your answers, we will send you a Development Plan – a report assessing your current situation, your vision, and how Teachease can get you there.
